Equity Bank names Kipng'etich as COO

Former Kenya Wildlife Service Director Julius Kipng’etich has been appointed Equity Bank's Chief Operating Officer.

The bank also announced the appointment of Samson Misheck Oduor, a former executive at Standard Chartered Bank, as its Group Finance Director.

“Prior to joining the bank, Sam served at the Standard Chartered Bank as the regional head of Audit for Africa before moving to Ecobank Transnational Inc. As chief finance officer, Domestic Bank Africa and was based in Lagos and Tome,” Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi said in a statement to the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Thursday.

The statement said Dr Kipng’etich joined KWS as Director in 2005. Before this, he was the Managing Director of Investment Promotion Council. 

Dr Kipng’etich, a Starehe Boys’ Alumni, has over 17 years experience in Business Process Re-engineering and Change Management.

He was Director of the Student Welfare Authority, University of Nairobi, where he also lectured in the Department of Management Science. 

He is a member of the Kenya Tourist Board, and serves on the boards of Kenya Forestry Authority, Equity Bank, Police Oversight Board, Moi Girls Eldoret, Starehe Girls, Starehe Boys, Red Cross, a Member of the Mau Task Force and the Steering Committee for the Marketing of Kenya Stadia prior to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.

He is also the patron of AISEC – University of Nairobi.

Last week, KWS said Dr Kipng’etich had resigned from his post to pursue "personal interests".

Peter Leitoro, a KWS deputy director in charge of security, was appointed as KWS director in an acting capacity to replace Dr Kiptng'etich.
