Standard Chartered Bank has released Sh7 million for the fourth edition of the Top 100 medium-sized companies survey for 2012/13.

The survey is an initiative of KPMG Kenya and Nation Media Group. It seeks to identify Kenya’s fastest growing medium sized companies in order to showcase business excellence and highlight some of Kenya’s most successful entrepreneurs.

Speaking during the unveiling of the sponsorship at a Nairobi hotel on Monday, Standard Chartered Bank general manager, SME banking in East Africa, Mr Humprey Muturi, said there is a need for big companies to support both medium and small enterprises.

He further called on financial institutions to provide capital and trade to companies willing to do business in other countries. He said that Standard Chartered was ready to assist such companies.

“We should provide capital for businesses willing to trade with other countries like India and larger Asian market,” Mr Muturi said. He said the bank is in the forefront of those providing workable solutions to SMEs through facilitation of meetings, seminars, updates and training.

The 2012/13 Top SME survey is expected to attract over 600 entrants. The gala event whereby ranking of companies will be unveiled will be on October 12.

Mr Tom Mshindi, Nation Media Group managing director, Newspapers Division, who was presented the Sh7 million pact, thanked the bank and called for more sponsorship for such initiatives.
