Milk hawking will be banned in all urban areas, the Kenya Dairy Board has said.
In recent months, trade in raw milk has increased as farmers seek better prices than those offered by processors, reversing the gains made by the regulator in increasing the amount of processed milk in the country.
KDB says it will hold discussions with processors with a view to improving on the prices being offered to farmers.
“Of concern to us (KDB) is the big difference between producer prices and the prices paid by consumers. Farmers get between Sh32 and Sh35 per litre of milk sold while the same amount of processed milk is retailing at Sh90,” KDB managing director Machira Gichohi said Tuesday.
