Cooperative Insurance Company (CIC) has partnered with Kenya Red Cross and will now offer emergency medical services to its policy holders.
This comes at a time when the number of fatal accidents in the country have increased and claimed thousands of lives of Kenyans.
According to statistics from the Kenya Road Board at least 500 vehicles are involved in fatal accidents annually.
Speaking to the Nation, CIC managing director Nelson Kuria said the decision to partner with Red Cross was driven by need to offer affordable medical services to its policy holders.
“This venture is aimed at saving lives of our policy holders by making sure they receive emergency treatment when they are involved in accidents in the shortest possible time,” said Mr Kuria.
He said initially more than 10,000 clients will benefit adding that it will later be rolled out to all its policy holders.
“We intend to roll this venture in a bigger way and turn it into a mass product by involving all our clients in the near future,” said Mr Kuria.
He said the medical services will cover the family of the policy holder for one year.
The MD said CIC is also looking at the possibility of rolling out the programme to schools as most of the private institutions have shown keen interest.
