Equity Bank chief executive James Mwangi has been nominated for another global award.

Mr Mwangi landed the nomination to the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of The Year Awards that will take place on June 9 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

He won the region’s Master Entrepreneur of the Year last year.

The award honours the best entrepreneurs from around the globe who showcase vision, creativity, perseverance and success.

Finalists at World Entrepreneur of the Year are assessed by an independent panel of international judges, most being past winners of the same award.

“This nomination is a global recognition for Africans who have continued to believe in themselves, and are embracing the power of entrepreneurship to change the economic and social state of Africa,” Mr Mwangi said responding to the nomination.

He is celebrated for turning around Equity Bank from a technically insolvent building society with an asset base of Sh28 million in 1993 to become a leading all-inclusive commercial bank with an asset base of over Sh220 billion and listed in the NSE.
