Pressure continues to mount on Mumias Sugar company managing director Evans Kidero to relinquish his position at the firm.
Sugarcane farmers and leaders from Kakamega County said Dr Kidero was no longer committed on sugar industry matters as he had already declared interest in joining politics.
Mumias MP Benjamin Washiali told Dr Kidero to quit without further delay. “He has made it clear he shall be vying for the Nairobi governor seat. Let him leave and concentrate on his political career instead of buying time at the company at the expense of sugarcane growers and the industry at large,” the legislator said.
Select successor
Dr Kidero has been at the helm of the premier sugar miller for close to 10 years and farmers have been urging him to take a bold step and leave the firm.
Although farmers have little to influence the process of picking his successor at the sugar miller, Mr Washiali argued that Dr Kidero must be involved in some way to ensure that whoever takes over the post has the right qualifications.
“Farmers will not accept the board of directors’ appointee for the post once Dr Kidero leaves office without being given chance to give out their suggestions,” Washiali said.
Mumias Sugar director of finance Peter Kebati is being touted as the best replacement for Dr Kidero having served in the same position for the last nine years.
