The government has called on the private industry to work with training institutions to ensure that graduates get relevant job skills.

Speaking in Nairobi on Thursday evening, Higher Education minister Prof Margaret Kamar said the government is faced with high unemployment and is now focusing on supporting the youth to embrace self-employment.

“The private sector should increase their linkage with institutions of higher learning to ensure graduates are skilled enough for the job market,” he said.

She was speaking during Unilever IdeaTrophy winners’ announcement ceremony. “Such a programme (Unilever’s) which creates an out-of-the-classroom learning experience, promotes personal and entrepreneurial competencies among graduates” she said.
