Poor performance of Kirinyaga County in the 2013 Form Four examination has been blamed on politics.

Governor Joseph Ndathi accused some leaders of politicising secondary school education for their own selfish gain.

“Leaders have been dragging politics in schools and that is why secondary students have been performing dismally over the years,” he said Tuesday.
He was speaking at Kutus town the county headquarters where he flagged off eight brand new vehicles bought at a cost of Sh34.6 million to help fight crime.

Stamp it out

The vehicles would also help to boost development throughout the county.

Mr Ndathi said it was worrying that the county did not appear in the category of 50 students who performed well nationally.

The county boss vowed that he will stamp out political interference in the management of schools the county.

He observed that unlike in primary schools, candidates performed poorly in secondary schools.

“In Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination we are always the best nationally but in form four national test we are badly beaten,” he said.

However Mr Ndathi said the County improved slightly compared to the previous Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination results.

Meanwhile Kabare Girls Secondary School led in the 2013 KCSE exam in the county.

It produced the best three candidates beating all the schools in the area.

Baricho Boys Secondary School was ranked second while Mutira Girls Secondary was third.
