An assistant Chief in Mandera County was Wednesday evening injured when unknown people hurled a grenade at his house.

Muhamed Ibrahim, the assistant chief for Mandera Township, was in company of her 2year old daughter when the attackers struck.

Mandera Governor Ali Roba said the assistant chief who was critically injured while her daughter sustained minor injuries were rushed to Mandera district hospital for treatment.

“The unknown attackers first hurled a grenade and fired at him. Police on night patrol have responded and are pursuing the attackers,” said Mr Roba on Wednesday shortly after the attack.

He said that the attackers seemed to have had their target in mind as the vehicle drove past the house before the occupants threw the grenade.

“We do not know the motive behind the attack we cannot blame it on clan fighting as the assistant chief does not come from the either clans that have been fighting in Mandera,” said Mr Roba.
