An assistant chief who was shot before unknown people hurled a grenade at him on Wednesday evening has succumbed to the injuries.

Mr Muhamed Ibrahim died at Mandera referral hospital at 11 pm.

The assistant chief for Mandera Township's two-year-old daughter, who was also injured during the attack, is still admitted at the hospital in critical condition.
The administrator was injured in a combined rifle and grenade attack at his house in Mandera Town.
“Unknown attackers first hurled a grenade and fired at him before police at night patrol responded,” Mandera Governor Ali Roba said.
The governor said the attackers drove past the chief’s house before attacking him.
He said the attack appeared to be targeted terror one and had nothing to do with the recent fighting between the Degodia and Garre communities in the county as the fallen chief does not come from any of the two clans.
Mr Roba said police were still pursuing the attackers.
