The County Assembly’s Land committee has asked a registrar and two former civil servants to honour its summons in the inquiry into a dispute involving two group ranches.

The committee is investigating claims of land grabbing by about 40,000 members of Shompole and Ol Kiramatian ranches.

Kajiado North Land Registrar Ruphus Kalama, former Rift Valley Province Range Manager Peter ole Sadera and Mr Moses Ololouwa are among the people who are yet to appear before the committee.

Two former civil servants are said to have been mentioned adversely as shareholders of Nguruman Ltd, which is involved in the land ownership dispute.
The committee has been tasked to investigate the dispute.

Its officials yesterday said they would write letters to the people the committee had summoned but who had failed to appear, to give them a last chance.

RECEIVED INFORMATION

The team has received information from the locals, officials of the two group ranches and elders from the area, according to Mr Joseph Mutunkei, its chairman.

“We are glad that we are making progress so far as we gather information about the land,” said Mr Mutunkei.

He said it was unfortunate that some individuals believed to hold important information had ignored his team’s summonses.
He said the committee’s interest was to establish the truth and it would not victimise anyone.

Mr John Kamanga, the chairman of Ol Kiramatian ranch said he was optimistic that the team would establish the truth.

“It is our hope that finally the world will know that our land was grabbed smartly using some paper works in Nairobi,” he said.
