Students escape death as bus rolls

Students from several schools in Samburu county escaped death by a whisker when the bus they were travelling in rolled at Wamba on the Isiolo-Mararal road on Sunday evening.

Twenty-two of them were treated at Wamba Mission Hospital while another five who sustained serious injuries were admitted at the same facility.

Samburu County Kenya Red Cross Society coordinator Mr Mugambi Gitonga said the driver of the Baragoi Boys High School in which the students were travelling also suffered serious injuries and is also admitted in the hospital.

He said students from various schools in Baragoi were travelling in the same from the just concluded National Secondary School Games in Meru when the accident happened.

“All the students were not from Baragoi Boys, several schools had pooled their players together for the trip,” he said.

Mr Mugambi said the driver of the bus lost control and the bus rolled several times.
