Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto have accused Deputy President William Ruto of lacking the goodwill to unite the Kalenjin community.

Mr Moi said although the DP had continually declared that he was working towards uniting the various fighting factions of the community, his sentiments were “mere lip service”.

The two are among leaders from the Kalenjin community who have been against the DP and leading onslaughts to dislodge him as de-facto leader of the community.

Mr Moi who lead a group of Kalenjin leaders in dismissing the DP on Sunday, said the community was tired with his seeming lack of an agenda to bring the people together and urged him to stop misleading people.

DEVELOP ECONOMICALLY

“We do not want to be fooled any longer” said Mr Moi. “The kind of unity that this community desires is one in which poverty can be eliminated so that our people can develop economically, socially and politically.”

Kanu Secretary-General Nick Salat accompanied the leaders during the launch of a football tournament at the Kericho Teachers Training College.

Governor Ruto hit out at the Jubilee administration for alleged poor funding of county governments and said he would keep pushing for enhanced financial allocation to the devolved units.

On March 19, when he led hundreds of Jubilee Alliance Party leaders to celebrate the party’s victory in the senatorial by-election in Kericho, the DP extended an olive branch to his opponents in the region.

He said he was willing to work with them for the sake of ensuring the unity of the community.
