Leadership woes in Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation-Samburu branch have taken a new twist after ten women moved to court seeking nullification of the recent election results.

The women who were led by county chairwoman seat loser Naomi Lekaikum asserted that the list of new officials, where Ms Ann Lenturkan was elected chairwoman, were null and void since the process was marred with irregularities.

In the suit filed before Lady Justice Janet Mulwa, the women sought orders to have fresh elections held and that pending the poll, the nominees be barred from executing duties as elected officials.
The court heard irregularities including interference by the county government, nepotism, tribalism marred the poll and that the elections were not free and fair as some members were threatened.

“The Samburu county commissioner failed to protect all the contestants equally,” said the complainants.

However, denying the allegations through an affidavit, Ms Lenturkan said she became chairwoman through just and legal means and the results given in an open and transparent manner.

The court ordered the women to file a further affidavit within seven days, with the case set for a mention on October 31 for more directions.
