Security officers have been accused of “reluctance” to arrest a man who shot dead three people and injured two others.

Tiaty leaders, among them Silale Ward Representative Nelson Lotela, claimed the victims’ bodies were still at the scene of the weekend shooting in Mkeluk village in Naudo Location.

“As we speak, the suspect is still walking free. The public is still waiting for the government to respond,” Mr Lotela told the Nation.

But Baringo County police boss Hassan Barua on Wednesday dismissed the leaders’ claims, saying they were out of touch with the reality on the ground.

CLOSING IN ON SUSPECT

“Those making such claims are people living in towns and have no information of what is happening on the ground. Security personnel have been on the ground for the last three days and I’m in full touch with them.

“We are closing in on the suspect and he will soon be arraigned in court to answer murder charges,” Mr Barua told the Nation.

He called on residents with any information on the killing to give it to the police.

During the Saturday afternoon incident, the suspect is said to have left his friends feasting on roast goat meat, only to return with a gun and spray them with bullets.

Villagers who heard the gunshots rushed to the scene and found the bodies of the men identified as Mr Tayir Lokudoruk, Mr Kanyakera Mkomoi and Mr Lopoghon Ngoriaswa in a pool of blood.

Mr Krop Nakwiadomo, sustained gunshot wounds on the right leg and was taken to Kabarnet District Hospital.

Mr Ngorialima Limakamar was slightly injured in the hand and was treated and discharged.
