Lamu Senator Abu Chiaba has called on local politicians to be united ahead of the 2017 General Election.

Mr Chiaba said time had come for all political parties in Lamu to come together, saying the Jubilee coalition was the best destination.

Addressing journalists in Lamu Town on Tuesday, Mr Chiaba called on politicians and other leaders to preach peace and cohesion among different communities.

Mr Chiaba welcomed the recent announcement by Governor Issa Timamy to join the Jubilee alliance and said it was a worthy move that would benefit the county.

The senator called on other politicians in the county to follow in Mr Timamy’s footsteps to cross over and join Jubilee.

“Jubilee has already proved worthy through its development track record. The time has come for Lamu leaders to belong to one political side that is Jubilee so that we can bring more development at home.

The governor did well. It was long overdue (for him to join Jubilee coalition). I pray that the rest of politicians in Lamu will do the same,” said Mr Chiaba
