Murang’a County government on Thursday rolled out a Sh1 billion project for roads development.

Governor Mwangi wa Iria said the roads programme would entail grading, gravelling and drainage paving of key access roads in all the 35 county wards in addition to opening up new roads.

Wa Iria said the money had been factored in this year’s 2016/2017 budget to upgrade all feeder roads and rehabilitate major roads.

He said this would also include roads under the national government to ensure the residents are able to access vital facilities.

Mr Wa Iria said the roads will be rehabilitated as the county waits for the national government to allocate funds adding that work will commence tomorrow.

The billion shillings will be used to lease earth moving equipment to work to speed up service delivery in all the wards adding that the same money will be used to buy lorries to carry murram and quarry waste.

‘Each of the 35 wards, he stressed, has been allocated equipment to fast-track completion of the road rehabilitation programmes,” he said.

‘The machines will work 24 hours as we shall have two shifts as it is my wish to have every ward delivering at least 100km of roads which will cumulate to 3500km,” he added.
