Sixty-five Ethiopians were on Thursday charged in an Isiolo court with being in the country illegally.

The accused, all men, were arrested on March 24 at around 11pm at the Archers Post roadblock in Samburu County.

They appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Joan Irura.

In their defence, the accused said they did not know that it was illegal to enter Kenya without a permit and sought forgiveness.

They all pleaded guilty and were fined Sh200,000 each or serve a three-month jail term before being deported to Ethiopia.

SELLING MILK

Elsewhere, five people were also charged in an Isiolo court with selling milk in unhygienic conditions.

Moses Mutuma, Sablo Muthaura, Paul Mureithi, Ibrahim Mwiti and Rhoda Gakubu appeared before Resident Magistrate Robert Mundia.

Mutuma was found in possession of 60 litres of milk; Mr Muthaura, 150 litres; Mr Mureithi, 90 litres; Mr Mwiti, 60 litres; and Ms Gakubu, 210 litres.

The suspects were found with the milk packaged in plastic jerrycans at Maili Saba on the Isiolo-Meru road in Isiolo County.

The accused pleaded guilty and were fined between Sh15,000 and Sh22,000 each or serve six months in prison.

The milk, which was presented in court as evidence, was forfeited to the State for destruction.
