As the Easter holiday came to a close Monday, seven people were injured in yet another accident on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The accident happened at the Kamandura junction when a matatu belonging to the Prestige Shuttle Sacco overturned.

Seven other people escaped unhurt in the accident.

The matatu was travelling from Kisumu to Nairobi when it overturned at the junction where the road branches off to Kabuku and Mai-Mahiu.

“Six passengers and the driver suffered minor injuries and were rushed to Tigoni District Hospital for treatment,” area police boss Michael Mbaluku said.

The driver told the police that he lost control of the vehicle when another vehicle blocked his way forcing him to drive onto the side of the road.

EYEWITNESS

“Luckily there were no people standing on the as the matatu dangerously left its side of the road and crossed to the other side of the highway before turning on its side,” an eyewitness Jane Njoki said.

Some of the vehicle’s windows were shattered and items belonging to the passengers were strewn on the roadside.

This accident follows another one along the same highway at Kinungi area which killed six people and injured five others.

OCPD Mbaluku asked motorists to drive carefully on the road especially at that junction where several roads meet.

There was heavy traffic snarl up along the highway as the police controlled vehicles near the accident scene.

In Africa, it was ranked second to South Africa’s Settlers Freeway. The report further said that drivers were more to blame for this and not the condition of the road.
