Ninety-two Ethiopians were on Thursday sentenced to a month in prison for being in the country illegally.

The accused, all men, were also ordered to be repatriated back to Ethiopia upon the end of their jail terms.

The accused were arrested on July 21 on the Isiolo-Merti road in Isiolo County at around 6am.

They were being illegally transported in an Isuzu vehicle under the escort of a Toyota Vitz.

The accused appeared before Chief Magistrate Samuel Mungai.

The 92 Ethiopians pleaded guilty and begged for leniency, claiming that they were heading to South Africa through Kenya to find jobs.

They were taken to Isiolo GK Prison.
