Police in Isiolo are detaining a suspected Al-Shabaab member believed to be from Mandera County.

Mr Ahmed Yare, who has a gunshot wound in the back, was arrested in Bula Pesa, Isiolo by police who were on patrol.

Isiolo County Criminal Investigations Officer David Cheruiyot said the 27-year-old is suspected to have been involved in recent attacks in Mandera County.

He said police from Mandera and Isiolo are interrogating the suspect.

“We have requested the court to grant us 10 days for further investigation,” he said.

Mr Cheruiyot said they are investigating circumstances under which the man was shot in the back.

He said police have intensified search for members of the Al-Shabaab in the region.

The arrest comes two weeks after two primary school teachers in Isiolo were arrested on suspicion of radicalizing and recruiting young people to join the Al-Shabaab.
