  • The Majority and Minority Leaders were ousted in controversial circumstances while visiting South Africa.

The County Assembly was turned into a battlefield Wednesday with members clashing over sitting arrangements for the Majority and Minority Leaders.

Trouble started when nominated Ward Rep Jared Kajomo asked Speaker Samwel Ochilo why Gwasii North Rep Evance Marieba had occupied the seat for the Majority Leader while Mr Isaac Ouso Nyandega occupied that of the Minority Leader.

The holders of the seats, Mr Michael Owino Ooro and Mr Clement Olago, were ousted in controversial circumstances while they were attending a meeting in South Africa last week.

INFURIATED ALLIES

Mr Kajomo wanted the Speaker to make a ruling on Mr Ooro's and Mr Ologa’s status.

The Speaker declined, saying he received the minutes of Tuesday’s meeting from both the Majority and the Minority groups late.

This infuriated allies of Mr Marieba and Mr Nyandega, setting the stage for the fierce confrontation.

Lambwe Ward Rep Walter Okumu and Mr Kajomo later exchanged blows.

Yesterday’s incident came as the Assembly had officially started to mourn the Kibiri Ward Representative Boas Odhiambo Ondiek, who was murdered in his home last Thursday.
