Police net bhang worth Sh4m in Migori as suspects escape

Police in Migori County have netted a bhang haul worth Sh4 million.
The consignment, packed in five sacks, was impounded in Ragana Village, in the outskirts of Migori Town at 4am Tuesday.
A quick response team of the Administration Police on patrol confronted the suspected traffickers who were in a new Toyota Wish car but they refused to surrender.
“They attempted to reverse but got stuck in mud before they jumped out and disappeared into a nearby thicket,” said Mr Peter Kisilu, Migori County AP commandant.
He said the cargo was from a neighbouring country and was being taken to Mombasa for sale.
“I thank my officers for the good work done and I appeal for co-operation from members of the public,” said Mr Kisilu.
Last month, a bhang haul worth Sh1.5 million was impounded in the region.
The consignment, packed in perfumed suitcases, was impounded in Uriri Sub-County while being transported to Homa Bay on motorcycles.
The cargo was then to be loaded into a waiting vehicle in Homa Bay Town to transport it to Nairobi for sale.
But hawk-eyed administration police officers in Uriri got an early tip-off and gave chase through the overgrown sugarcane plantations in the area.
Mr Kisilu said his officers will continue to fight bhang trade in the region and warned the drug dealers that their days are numbered.
He noted that although most of the bhang finding its way into the country came from Tanzania, they will not get tired in eliminating the flourishing trade.
