Bungoma police rescue three suspected witchdoctors from mob

Police in Bungoma North Sub-County on Thursday rescued three people from a mob that wanted to lynch them for allegedly practicing witchcraft.

Area police commander Eliud Okello said the mob in Namatore village torched seven houses belonging to the suspects.

Mr Okello said the villagers accused the suspects of being behind the deaths of three people in the area.

The police boss warned residents against taking the law into their own hands and added that police had launched investigations into the incident.

He said those who burnt the houses would be prosecuted.

Last week, a man suspected to be practicing witchcraft was killed and his body thrown into River Nzoia.

Mr Okello said the body was retrieved Monday and taken to Kitale Referral Hospital.
