Ford Kenya leaders want other National Super Alliance (Nasa) affiliate parties locked out of Bungoma County by not fielding candidates in the August elections so as to give the party an upper hand.

Bungoma Ford Kenya chairman Wafula Wamunyinyi said the party has left the Nasa presidential ticket to ODM party leader Raila Odinga and therefore he should not compete with his co-principal Moses Wetang'ula by fielding candidates in his home turf.

Addressing journalists at Bungoma Members Club on Thursday, the Kanduyi MP said they made the decision to avoid the infighting that could give Jubilee an upper hand in the region.

FORD-K ZONE

He said the only person who should get votes in Bungoma is the Nasa presidential flag-bearer.

“Zoning is real. We want ODM not to field its candidates from MCAs to governor because this is purely a Ford Kenya region and we don’t want to divide votes to give Jubilee an edge over Nasa. Let ODM field its candidates in its stronghold areas to stop wrangles.

The MP announced that they will hold a major rally at the Bungoma Posta Grounds on Monday to officially launch the party’s campaigns. Party leader Moses Wetang’ula and other officials will address the gathering.

MOSES WETANG'ULA

Mr Wetang’ula is expected to present his nomination papers at the IEBC offices on Monday morning before the rally.

“The rally will be used to send a clear message to our friends in other parties within Nasa not to field any candidate in the county so that we can win majority seats.

"The rally will also ensure that we bring together all our candidates who lost in the just concluded nominations,” he said.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Bungoma County ODM Secretary Okumu Majimbo said Mr Wamunyinyi’s demands are unreasonable.

“ODM will field its candidates come rain come sunshine. Ford Kenya cannot dictate to us what to do. ODM is very strong in the county and we will field all candidates from the ward level to the county level,” said the Khalaba Ward MCA.
