Man who hacked mother to death surrenders to police

A 22-year-old man who killed his mother over a Sh6,000 debt in Kaptogoi village, Mt. Elgon, has surrendered to the police.

Daniel Karam surrendered to the Chepsikaai Police Station on Thursday.

Mr Karam is reported to have asked his 61-year-old mother, Grace Mbiwa, to pay the Sh6,000 she owed him when a fight broke out between them.

“Daniel Karam had heard that [his] mother had sold coffee and he thought she had money. But his mother had not received the money [as] he thought.

"He had asked the mother to pay him or face consequences,” said Jacob Munyasia.

DRUNK AND ARMED

“He hacked his mother several times on the head and residents were alerted by her screams.

SAD INCIDENT

“Who would dare kill his own mother? It is so unfortunate this had to happen,” said Mr Munyasia.

Police arrived at the scene and rushed the woman, who was bleeding heavily, to Bungoma District Hospital for treatment. She died on arrival.

His mother’s body was taken to the Bungoma District Hospital mortuary.
