Two people died while six others were seriously hurt after a passenger service vehicle collided with a truck in Sikata, on Webuye-Malaba highway.

The injured in the Sunday 8pm crash were taken to Bungoma County Referral Hospital.

Eyewitness Juliet Nekesa said the matatu was overtaking another vehicle when it collided with the Webuye-bound truck.

“It was a bad one, the matatu driver was overtaking at a high speed. I only heard an explosion and seconds later the matatu was flying in the air and landed in a ditch, passengers were wailing and blood splashed all over,” she said.

Bungoma South traffic boss Galma Malicha blamed careless driving.

“Speeding was the main cause of this grisly accident…I am asking drivers to be very keen while on the road…we need all passengers to reach their destinations safely,” he said.

The bodies were taken to Bungoma County Referral Hospital while the wreckage was towed to the Bungoma police station as police investigate.
