Owners of lodges and tented camps along the Mara and Ewaso Nyiro rivers have been urged to take precautions ahead of the El Niño rains.

Tourism Regulatory Authority Director-General Lagat Kipkorir said there was a likelihood of some lodges and camps being affected by floods during the heavy rains.

He added that the lodge and camp owners should come up with measures to ensure the safety of their guests.

Mr Kipkorir said that some years ago, camps along the Ewaso Nyiro River were flooded following heavy rains.

He said guests were evacuated by the British Army.

“It should be noted that some camps in the area were built on river banks,” he said.

“Camp owners must make preparations to cope with floods.”
