Case on free Internet plan postponed over delays

The State has 30 days to respond to claims that funds set aside for a project that was supposed to provide free Internet service in Nakuru were misused.

High Court Judge Abigael Mshila issued the directions in Nakuru after State Counsel Yvonne Khatambi asked for more time to file an affidavit in response to the allegations.

Lobby groups want the county government compelled to provide information on how the Sh300 million was spent. The cash was spent on a WiFi project to provide free Internet to residents, which failed a few hours after the launch.

Ms Khatambi, saying she had not received any instructions on the way forward from the Attorney-General, requested for a postponement. The Law Society of Kenya-Rift valley and Nakuru East MP David Gikaria have sued the county government.

The case will be mentioned on November 11.

The project was fronted by State House Director for Digital Communication Dennis Itumbi.
