What you need to know:

  • Speaking on Sunday in Garissa, Mr Duale told Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Baringo Senator to tell Kericho residents that the Raila Odinga led coalition had no vision and show them an alternative.
  • He exuded confidence that the Jubilee Alliance Party flag bearer Aaron Cheruiyot will win the mini poll with a landslide against the Kanu‘s Paul Sang and others saying Kericho is jubilee ‘s stronghold’ and it will recapture the seat.

National Assembly Majority Aden Duale has said the opposition Cord has "failed Kenyans" and asked Kericho residents to ignore it and vote for the Jubilee candidate.

Speaking on Sunday in Garissa, Mr Duale told Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to tell Kericho residents that the Raila Odinga-led coalition had no vision and show them an alternative.

He exuded confidence that Jubilee party flag-bearer Aaron Cheruiyot would win the mini poll with a landslide against the Kanu‘s Paul Sang and others, saying Kericho is a Jubilee "stronghold" and it would recapture the seat.

He said the Bomet governor and Senator Moi, the Kanu chairman, are not in the same league with Deputy President William Ruto, noting that they are giving undue advantage to Cord.

“I dare Isaac Ruto and Gideon Moi to tell Kenyans an alternative party other than Jubilee Alliance if it’s not giving the Opposition advantage,” said Mr Duale.

CORRUPTION

At the same time, he said the fight against corruption in the public sector was real and that the Jubilee administration is committed to eradicating the vice.

He said the anti-graft bodies like any other constitutional organs such as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Auditor-General, the Inspector-General of Police and the controller of budget ought to be seen to carry autonomous investigations before handing over their report to the President.

This comes after a sworn affidavit filed in court by businesswoman Josephine Kabura Irungu implicated former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru in the loss of Sh792 million at the National Youth Service.

“We will ensure corruption is cleared in the public sector, including the Judiciary,” he told journalists.

He said the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is only answerable to the President and Parliament and therefore must do its work to independently investigate and prosecute individuals implicated in corruption.
