Police have ordered residents of Makuti Estate in Lodwar town to vacate their homes after a bomb was found in the compound.

Police on Tuesday afternoon secured the area and were waiting for bomb experts from Nairobi to detonate it.

According to residents, two boys found a metallic object and were struggling to open it.

They called a neighbour, Peris Aureng, to help them open it but she noticed that it looked like a bomb and called the police.

She said the boys ran away after she told them the object resembled a bomb.

"I suspected that it was a bomb that resembled the ones I have seen in action movies." she told journalists.

Turkana Central OCPD Kipkemboi Kirui said police had secured the area as they awaited the arrival of the bomb experts.

"It is a 60 millimetre bomb and has a capacity to destroy property within a one kilometre radius or a tall building." Mr Kirui said.

The police were also trying to establish where the boys found the bomb.
