Mandera Governor Ali Roba on Sunday launched the building of 250 houses for Internally Displaced Persons in the county.

The IDPs have been camping at Abakaro and Darusalam and will now move to Rhamu where the structures will be put up.

The national government has also pledged to construct 104 units in a month’s time.

The county government will later add 350 more units.

“This follows my government’s pledge to permanently settle the IDPs when I visited the camps last month,” Mr Roba said.

The governor also opened four water kiosks in the two camps saying his administration will also continue giving the IDPs food.

“I am pleased with the level of appreciation towards these projects. My government will strive to make the IDPs lives even better since peace is paramount for economic, social and political development,” he said.

The county chief urged the IDPs and other locals to ensure peace and tolerance.

They ran away from their homes following tribal clashes.
