Relief for patients as county set plans acquire CT scan machine

Patients in Marsabit with chronic diseases like cancer will soon sigh with relief following announcement by the county government that it plans to acquire a CT scan machine.
Health chief officer James Chiwe told the Nation that Sh130 million has been allocated to acquire the machine before the end of this fiscal year.

Mr Chiwe said the machine would be a great relief to patients from the county who are forced to travel more than 300 kilometres to Meru for treatment.

"Our running cost has been high in the Marsabit Referral hospital due to lack of equipment for diagnosis. We will purchase a CT scan machine this financial year to end this problem," he said in his office.

Mr Chiwe said the machine is part of four flagship projects earmarked for the department this financial year as the county government sets to improve healthcare.

Other projects include a blood bank to be established in Moyale at a cost of Sh16 million and modern theatre at Laisamis sub-county hospital at similar amount.

"We will also establish a health centre in North Horr town at a cost of Sh20 million.

Marsabit and Moyale hospitals will have perimeter walls that will cost taxpayers Sh47 million and Sh67million respectively, "he added.

Health executive Stephen Labarakwe has in the past said monkeys have been causing havoc to patients in Marsabit Referral hospital due to lack of fence.
