County steps up war on poaching

The war on poachers has been stepped up in Isiolo’s three game reserves.

Governor Godana Doyo said Wednesday that his government was ready to protect wildlife in the county.

This comes on the heels of increased poaching in upper eastern, killing more than 134 elephants last year, according to Kenya Wildlife Service.

The county government has bought four patrol vehicles for rangers in Shimba, Buffalo Springs and Bisan Adi game reserves to fight poaching.

Tourist attraction
Mr Doyo told the Press in his office, as the county hosts the Tourism Week and the International Tourism Day, that Isiolo had attractive tourist attraction sites.

“It’s upon us to protect our wildlife since these are resources for all Kenyans,” he said.

Mr Doyo assured tourists visiting the region that security had been beefed up and there was no cause to worry.

“We are working close with the security personnel to ensure that lives are protected,” said the county boss.

He condemned the September 21 terror attack on Westgate Shopping mall in Nairobi which claimed the lives of more than 69 people and left some 300 others wounded.

Isiolo Assistant deputy county commissioner Mwangi Mburu described the security situation as calm saying they have received no threats.

While assuring the visitors who will be attending the tourism week and the International Tourism Day, Mr Mburu said, “Isiolo right now is the calmest county in the country.”
