THRILLING PERFORMANCES

In the teachers training colleges category, Kibabii Diploma College’s play, Reverberations, won in the play categories. The winners were announced yesterday at Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls.

The play is all about betrayal, selfish interests and malice. It pits two step brothers against each other, whose interests are parallel and whose hatred for each other is intense. The two have had a long running battle which has threatened to break the family apart. As their battles continue to disintegrate the family, elders intervene and urge them to live together.

Second position went to Eregi teachers college play, The Principal is Naked.

In the dance category, Murang’a Teachers were the winners, followed by Kaimosi TTC, while Thogoto was third.

In the choral verse category, Thogoto took position one followed by Kagumo.

Kericho TTC were the winners in the solo verse category. Followed by Nairobi’s KTTI.

Egoji TTC were the winners in the oral narrative category.

At the Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls venue, the primary schools section witnessed performances by Early Childhood Development (nursery schools) children. The children entertained the audience with thrilling singing games and verses. Singing dances entail what they do best  at break time and while playing, only that the ones in the festival are costumed and more choreographed.

The winners in the colleges, universities, primary and secondary schools will stage their performances during the gala Kagumo Teachers College, Nyeri.

According to the event’s chairman, Mr Chokera Kahura, the culmination of the 2014 drama festival will be held at the State Lodge, Sagana, after the winners gala on today and tomorrow.

The winners from all categories will present their items before President Uhuru Kenyatta and other dignitaries on Wednesday.
