Kenya Navy divers failed for the second day on Thursday to find the body of a school-leaver who drowned in an abandoned quarry in Eldoret while swimming.

On Tuesday, police fired teargas into a protesting crowd demonstrating against the county government’s failure to respond quickly to appeals to search for the body.

During the skirmishes at Ngeria, demonstrators blocked the Eldoret-Nakuru highway for five hours as they engaged police in running battles.

The three Kenya Navy divers were flown in from Mombasa County.
