A driver who doused a mechanic with petrol and later lit him in Maua, Meru County will remain in custody for two more weeks before taking plea.

This comes after Constable Joseph Kiminda, the officer who is investigating the case asked for more time to enable him complete his investigations.

He also sought to get time to record a statement from the mechanic who is admitted to Maua Methodist Hospital.

Constable Kiminda told Chief Magistrate John King’ori that Mr Livingstone Muriki sustained serious burn injuries after the incident and therefore it was not easy for him record his statement.

“Your honour, Mr Muriki sustained very serious injuries especially on his right side of the chest and his arms and it was impossible to record any statement from him since he was already admitted to hospital.

“I would request to be given two weeks so that I can get his statement and also complete investigations into the matter,” he said.

On his side, the accused, Mr Fohad Abdi, had no objection to the application made by the investigating officer.

Consequently, Chief Magistrate John King’ori granted the investigating officer two weeks to complete investigations. The accused will be produced in court on November 4, 2014 to take a plea.

The accused was arrested by police officers form Maua Police Station after they were given a tip off by his colleagues.

He allegedly ran away after carrying out the heinous act and hid in one of the guest houses in Maua Town where he was found by the police.
