EACC question county officials over graft

Three senior Migori County officers were on Tuesday quizzed by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Eacc) detectives over alleged graft.

The three officers were interrogated and later recorded statements at the Migori police station.

The suspects who included the Head of Supply Chain Management Mr Elekia Odari, County Director of Water Mr George Asiyo and his deputy Mr Dan Odhiambo, were nabbed over allegations that the County Government of Migori, procured water pipes directly from a firm identified as Speedway Technical Company Limited without the written approval of the Tender Committee.

They face several offences of willful failure to comply with procurement regulations and abuse of office, according to the EACC.

The officers will appear before the anti-corruption court in Homa Bay on Wednesday to answer to the charges.

Mr Odari and Mr Odhiambo will be charged with three counts whereas Mr Asiyo faces two counts.

The officers were released on cash bail of Sh100, 000 each.

Migori County Police commander Mr David Kirui said he could not divulge more information regarding the matter because "this is an EACC affair".

"I can confirm that the suspects were brought here but they were interrogated by the EACC officers only," he added.
