A herder was on Monday killed at Sabare-Dukana in Marsabit County, about 100km from the Kenya-Ethiopia border.

Police said the body of the man identified as Elema Guyo, 65, was found with gunshots wounds after suspected Ethiopian militants shot at him while he was herding cattle.

County Police Commander Ben Kogo said the assailants fled to Ethiopia after the incident.

Mr Kogo told Nation.co.ke in his office that investigations had been launched into the matter, adding that the motive behind the killing was still unknown.

“We are yet to know the motive for this incident but the unknown number assailants killed the old man and fled without stealing any cattle from him,” he said.

The police boss added that he had engaged his Ethiopian counterparts who visited the scene and are helping them trace the suspects.

This comes in the wake of increased attacks by Ethiopian soldiers who have invaded the border town of Moyale and Sololo five times between March and June.

Over the period, three rifles and ammunition belonging to the government have been lost to the foreign soldiers after stealing them Kenya Police Reservists (KPR).

The Kenyan government has already protested to Ethiopia over the invasions which Marsabit County Commissioner Peter Thuku says are unwarranted.
