Ferry workers have issued a seven-day strike notice after salary increment talks ended in a deadlock.

Last Friday, the Dock Workers Union (DWU) and the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) failed to agree on an increment percentage.

Whereas the union demanded 50 per cent, the agency insisted it could give only 10 per cent.

However, DWU General Secretary Simon Sang Wednesday issued a seven-day strike notice to Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi.

In the letter, Mr Sang said the talks failed because the Finance and Transport ministries were not represented.

“The issue is more of revenue arrangement between Kenya Ferry Services and the Ministry of Transport in respect to revenue contribution agreed at the ratio of 35:65,” he said.

Mr Sang claimed the ministry failed to remit 65 per cent of revenue to Kenya Ferry, rendering it financially unstable.
