A dormitory was on Monday morning gutted at Koderobara Boys Secondary School in Rongo, Migori County, as students were in class for their morning studies.

Locals who went to help the school team and the police to put off the fire accused the county government’s disaster preparedness department of failing to deal with fires.

They said the county lacks a fire-fighting engine to respond quickly when disaster strikes.

The county depends on one fire engine owned by Sony Sugar Company.

The blaze followed others at Mulo Secondary School, Nyabisawa Secondary School, Mukuyu Secondary School and Kokuro Secondary School.

Police have launched investigations to ascertain the cause of the fires.
