Five family members drown after vehicle plunges into dam in Migori

Five people drowned in Migori on Christmas day after their car plunged into a dam.

The five, members of one family, were travelling to a Christmas party at a friend’s home when the incident occurred at 10pm.

The woman was travelling with her two daughters, a niece and sister in-law.

She was avoiding a muddy stretch, but lost control of the Toyota Harrier about 100 metres from their destination. Her daughters and niece were below 10 years old.

Villagers who rushed to the scene said the three children were pronounced dead on arrival at St Joseph’s Mission Hospital Ombo.

Mr Joseph Nyambori who was at the scene said the children were still breathing but died on arrival at the hospital.

A somber mood gripped Midoti village in Suna East constituency following the death of the five.
