Five suspects shot dead, pistol found

Police shot dead five suspects and recovered a pistol in two separate incidents in Nairobi on Monday night.

Four suspects were killed in Tena estate, where police recovered a pistol. However, two, including one armed with an AK47 rifle, escaped.

The fifth suspect, police said, was shot in Muthama, Dagoretti Division.

Nairobi County police commander Benson Kibue said officers from Buruburu police station had received information that six gunmen, armed with an AK47 rifle and pistols, were robbing pedestrians at a bus stop on Manyanja road, Tena.

A night patrol squad went there and  gunned down four as the two escaped.

Mr Kibue said police had gathered enough information about the two who escaped and detectives were tracking them.

The man who was killed in Dagoretti is said to have been in an armed gang that was robbing people in  Muthama.

The shooting brings to at least eight those killed by police in the city in the last 24 hours.

On Monday morning, Special Crime Prevention Unit officers shot dead three suspects and recovered Sh97,000.

They said the gang had  robbed a petrol station owner, Mr Patel Essar, of Sh2 million in Ruiru.

Elsewhere, police are investigating the mysterious death of a law firm employee  who was found dead at his residence in Lavington yesterday morning.

Mr David Otieno Ndira, an accountant at Hamilton Harrison & Mathews, was found lying on blood-stained stairs at Sunny Hill apartments.

His neighbour, Mr David Kimokoti, found the body around 2am as he scaled the stairs.

In Kasarani, two men suspected to have murdered a Kenya Defence Force soldier  have been arrested.
