Four people, including two police reservists, were shot dead after suspected Samburu bandits raided Gachuru Village.

Two other people sustained serious gunshot wounds in the 4.30pm incident on Monday. Two G3 rifles and ammunition belonging to the reservists were stolen.

Isiolo County Commissioner Wanyama Musiambo said swift response by police officers and aerial patrols led to the recovery of 200 animals that had been stolen by the rustlers.

Mr Musiambo told the Nation on the phone that security officers are searching for the raiders, who escaped towards Samburu County.

Some of the raiders, he said, could also have been injured as the officers found trails of blood during their search.

This brings to 14 the total number of people killed recently.

β€œIt is time the Samburu people respected the sanctity of life. I urge Samburu elders to sit down with their morans and tell them that the era of cattle rustling is long gone,” said Mr Musiambo.
