He said Cord would not get space to derail the Jubilee administration from implementing its manifesto.

Mr Kuria was declared elected unopposed after the electoral commission accepted a letter of withdrawal from his only challenger, Mr Joachim Kamere of the New Democrats Party.

Had Mr Kamere not withdrawn, a by-election would have taken place on August 7, 2014.

Mr Kuria said he would make Gatundu South a model constituency and unite its people following acrimonious campaigns prior to Mr Kamere’s exit from TNA.

The MP-elect, who was accompanied by his supporters, said he would not let down the electorate and President Kenyatta, who comes from the constituency.

“This victory is not mine,” he said, “it belongs to all of us.”

“We have demonstrated our unity of purpose to the world and I wish to thank my worthy opponents, especially Mr Kamere for the decision he made.”

He said education and agriculture would be at the top of his development agenda for the constituency that President Kenyatta represented in the last Parliament. He also promised to help eradicate unemployment among youths and improve infrastructure.
