  • MCAs warn senator over his claims that Amani leader has lost touch with Vihiga.
  • Leaders say Mudavadi's support had helped Khaniri get elected.

Vihiga MCAs allied to UDF on Tuesday warned Senator George Khaniri after he criticised Amani coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi over his perceived "absence" from the region.

The leaders told Mr Khaniri that he would be "on his own", further reminding him that Mr Mudavadi's support helped him get elected.

Speaking on behalf of the MCAs, nominated member Venna Kaisha said she was surprised at the blatant attacks on the UDF leader by the senator elected through the same party.

Mr Khaniri had accused Mr Mudavadi of losing touch with the people in his region and confining himself to Nairobi, only sending MCAs such as Ms Kaisha to search for votes for him.

But Ms Kaisha said, “I am loyal to the party and that is why I was nominated. I am Mr Mudavadi’s ambassador and will remain just that.”

Kibisu Kabatesi, Mr Mudavadi’s press secretary, said the region had “become tired of Senator Khaniri’s sideshows".

“This time round, the sideshows will not do. It is not in his place to advise the former deputy prime minister.

“Khaniri has forgotten it is the same Mr Mudavadi who has ensured that he gets elected all the time,” he said.

Mr Kabatesi said Mr Khaniri had "dug his own political grave" and asked the Vihiga residents to shun the senator.
