Governor accuses ministries of delaying border talks

Meru Governor Peter Munya has blamed the national government for the delay in resolving a boundary dispute between his county and Isiolo.

Mr Munya said the process was supposed to be completed in three months but has dragged on indefinitely. Leaders from the two counties agreed in December last year to resolve the issue.

The Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the National Land Commission and the ministries of Land and Interior were supposed to resolve the row.

“We agreed that the process should begin in March but nothing has happened. The ball is now in the government’s court,” he said.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the Meru University of Science and Technology (Must) second graduation ceremony held at Nchiru in Tigania West sub-county at the weekend.

The delay, the county boss said, was impeding the economic development of the region which is expected to reap from Isiolo Airport, Lamu Port-South-Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (Lapsset) corridor and Isiolo Resort City.

The leaders from Isiolo, who were led by Governor Godana Doyo, also agreed to use their council of elders to resolve the boundary dispute.
