Health docket gets biggest allocation

The health docket has been allocated the highest amount of funds after the assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a report on the budget estimates for the 2016/2017 financial year.

The report, tabled by the Finance, Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman Omar Lali, recommended that the county health docket be allocated the lion’s share of Sh792.1 million, which includes Sh579.1 million for recurrent expenditure and Sh213 million for development projects.

MCAs also got a substantial allocation at Sh417 million, with Sh347 million for recurrent and Sh70 million for development.

The county executive got Sh393.8 million while the lands docket received Sh276.9 million. The least allocation went to the trade docket at Sh31.2 million.

The assembly also adopted recommendations that required a sum of Sh75 million set aside for bursaries not to be utilised until the concerned board presented the necessary regulations that would ensure fairness and transparency in allocation.

The committee also recommended that the county government stops payment to the County Policing Authority and the Council of Governors, arguing that the national government would finance such operations.
