The County Assembly has passed a Motion making it mandatory for Governor Hassan Joho’s cabinet members to honour its summons.
However, only Mr Joho will be spared in the new regulation, which comes into force after a nominated member, Mr Mohamed Hatimy, moved the Motion seeking an amendment to the assembly’s standing orders to check a tendency by some county executives to ignore summons.
Mr Hatimy told the House on Tuesday that the executives were arrogant and disrespectful to the county assembly members.
“Whenever the county assembly members summon the executives to explain issues affecting their respective departments, they never show up,” he said.
Leader of majority Abdallah Kasagamba said although the assembly had passed several crucial Motions for the benefit of the public, the executives had been dragging their feet on implementing them.
