Property destroyed as inferno engulfs Mombasa warehouse
Property worth millions of shillings on Thursday was destroyed by an inferno at a Chemical Storage facility in Shimanzi, Mombasa County.
The fire that razed at least three tankers and several drums of chemicals at the Solvochem East Africa custom bonded warehouse is said to have started from a petrol tanker which was depositing fuel at the facility.
Mombasa Urban OCPD Martin Asin said the fire started at around 3.45pm as a petrol tanker was delivering fuel at the warehouse
Firemen at the facility were overwhelmed and had to seek assistance before the fire was contained.
“There were no lives lost and no injuries reported,” Mr Asin said.
Kenya Ports Authority officer Geoffrey Namadowa said their fire engine which was among the first to arrive at the scene before they were assisted by the Kenya Pipeline, Kenya Airports authority, Grain Bulk and the County Government brigade to contain the inferno.
